Phantom Comparison - Stranger Than You Dreamt It
A comparison video of 'Stranger Than You Dreamt It', post-unmasking.
For the actual unmasking reaction, see this video: ruclips.net/video/4gFg6WUFmJ8/видео.html
Note that this video is over a year old (yes, I'm behind, it's been a wild year) so there are many casts and productions that aren't accounted for. And as usual, the 25th anniversary cast will not be featured as any clips of them get my videos blocked worldwide. Enjoy!

Phantom Comparison - Our Passion Play
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.9 месяцев назад
I swear I did this comparison before but I guess not. Also I made this over a year ago. You can probably tell based on the number of actors not included in it. Anyway, a comparison of the blocking during the line, "Our passion play has now at last begun" from 'Point of No Return' in The Phantom of the Opera. Footage from the 25th anniversary is not included because it will get my video blocked.
Phantom Comparison - Abandon Thought
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
A comparison of the blocking during the line, "Abandon thought and let the dream descend" in 'Point of No Return', from The Phantom of the Opera. Note: This video was made almost a year ago so it's definitely a bit out of date. As per usual, the 25th anniversary concert is not included for copyright reasons (meaning that my video gets blocked worldwide if I include it).
Phantom Flub - Throne Malfunction
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.Год назад
A flub in the final scene which the Phantom is unable to get the throne to work, so instead of Meg pulling the cloak off the throne to reveal the mask, the actor hands the mask to her from beneath the cloak. Often talked about, rarely caught on video. Hugh Panaro plays the Phantom, Deanna Doyle plays Meg; Broadway, 2014.

Comparison video of the Phantom hurling the Mirror Bride dummy in the 'Final Lair'. Made and uploaded by request. his take on the role of eric(the phantom) feels simular to how the character acts in the book where he isnt agressive or anything like that but where he is self loathing the whole end of the novel but acts childish in the sence of being like i deserve this stay with me

Michael Crawford and Dave Willetts sound very similar and I think they are the two best. Peter Karrie, John Owen Jones, Ramin Karimloo and Colm Wilkinson come next for me.

Ow, I love so much this part. This moment is full of emotionals transitions. He goes from plenitude while he composing Don Juan Triumphant to absolute fury, then to despair, then to sadness at having to keep Christine imprisoned and then to manipulation and malice. For me is the first moment in which he shows how dangerous and manipulative he can be, and this make him more complex. He's not only a poor and pitiful criature, he's also a man who manipulate and manhandle to survive. And is poetic how the sentence "Fear can turn to love" is exaclty the opposite of what Christine is feeling at the moment. In some performances (and in the movie) Christine end this scene with pity and compassion. For me the best action is when there is only fear, decepcion and horror in her. Her fascinium/love/passion turns to fear, her "love turn to fear", and in fear there is no place for love, as Nina Simone said (to love is to not fear). From this moment, their relationship is change forever.

I really prefer the versions where the second kiss is replaced with a hug. I think it's such a sweet gesture on Christine's part, and really emphasizes that he's unaccustomed to and amazed by kindness and affection of _any_ kind, not just romantic.

My favorite thing about this is something choreographer Gillian Lynne has discussed - she said the blocking of where Phantom backs up and writhes against the portcullis, leading Christine to come closer and then suddenly scurry away is quite, uhh, pointed. He's meant to have an erection in that scene and is essentially, well, presenting. Christine feels it and - understandably - backs off. I think about that every time I watch this scene in a production.

Dimitry has always been and will forever remain my favorite Phantom, his acting, his voice, his very soul is what stunned me most in the Russian production, and I will always be grateful to the Universe that I had the opportunity to watch him as Erik! Bravo, my beloved Phantom!!!!!

Bravo Paul Stanley. He was perfect for this role as Erik aka The Phantom. I learned of his birth defect about his ear in an interview he did. He could relate to The Phantom. I wish I could've seen him in this role. He was beautiful in it. I even started crying when he says "Christine I love you." I've been Phantom of The Opera while in London, England back in 2005 and loved it. Just wish it has been Paul Stanley playing Erik.

*Stranger Than You Dreamt It* and *All I Ask of You (Reprise)* are the standards by which I measure how much I like the actor who plays the Phantom. You’re a manipulating, murderous psychopath (through no fault of your own, but still a manipulating, murderous psychopath nonetheless). You better *sell me* on why I should, despite all things that you do during the story, *adore* you as a character. Not every actor who plays the Phantom can do that, in my opinion. But the ones who can are *brilliant.*
